Journalism should be subversive.
I write stories about environmental and social justice that take aim at power and seek to give a voice to the voiceless.
For me journalism should be about challenging the status quo, exposing empire and capital, and refusing to accept that there is no alternative. By asking difficult questions, I try to reveal the issues underlying the problems we face.
I have been a journalist for more than 15 years, at publications ranging from the Daily Star to the Guardian, working in audio and video as well as print. Rather than simply reporting the news I set out to tell the story, because I believe it is narrative that drives people to act, and journalism is worth nothing if it does not provoke change.
